Pistachios

A dense pile of empty pistachio shells fills the frame, their pale tan interiors and cracked openings creating an overlapping textured pattern. A few shells still show small bits of reddish skin clinging to the inside.
Pistachios are one of my favorite nuts. I eat them often. I always buy them in the shell on purpose, it slows me down and keeps me from losing control and eating the whole bag at once. Cracking each shell open has become a kind of meditation for me, one at a time, no rushing it.
I took this photo of a pile of empty shells and found it kind of interesting to look at. All those little curved shapes and shadows.
